Some Invaluable Lessons To Learn At An MBA College

Some people like to lead, others prefer being lead. While I was never fond of leading as that required extra efforts, I simply hated being a follower. In simple terms, I was a rebel. Even during the time I was pursuing graduation in commerce, I refused to apply for any MBA course only because half of my class was already doing it and I wished to be different. I happily took up a job after graduation but soon reached a deadlock. I slogged away despite receiving a meagre salary and no acknowledgement. That was the time when the idea of pursuing an MBA struck me as I knew that would surely widen my career scope in the future.

I took a year off, studied until my eyes hurt, and finally managed to get admission in the best MBA college in India. My decision to pursue an MBA degree was the best decision of my life. And it’s not because of the financial security it gave me, but because of the following lessons my business school taught me:

Some Invaluable Lessons To Learn At An MBA College - IILM

1.    The value of working together in teams

I had always been an individual player before I entered the B school. While it was extremely difficult for me to accept others’ ideas initially, I gradually became better and learnt the importance of team work. Even the best of managers at cross-purposes with one another would not be able to prevent an organisation from failing.

2.    We can learn from every person

In the MBA college that I attended, I not only learnt from my wise professors, but I learnt from my fellow classmates as well as my juniors. You never know where the next great idea or approach may come from. And hence, while I may have become a manager now, I know that I can learn a lot from the people working under me.

3.    There is nothing better than one-on-one dialogue

I understand that it’s not feasible to have a one-on-one dialogue every time. But that’s actually the best way of disseminating unambiguous information in the most impactful manner. Be it an important meeting to solve a crisis, or a small discussion to brainstorm, it’s always better to have it face-to-face.

With a highly competitive and demanding work environment, every individual experiences difficulties to a certain extent when it comes to work-life balance. What is work-life balance, you ask? Well, the long and short of the whole concept is the ability to stay productive and competitive at work, handing all the pressures of work while maintaining a healthy and happy home life simultaneously.

A healthy work-life balance comes particularly into play for top-ranked management personnel who’ve graduated from the best mba colleges in India.

Also, coming from one of the top 10 MBA institute in India graduates are recruited into high managerial positions, and face tremendous pressures from work.

But the thing about work-life balance is that it’s not a trade-off between the two. For many people, work may come before family, or vice-versa. Everyone’s priorities are different, whether it’s to excel and stay at the top of the game at work, or to maintain a leisurely lifestyle. But that’s the thing, there’s no need for anybody to compensate when it comes to work or family. An ideal scenario would therefore be one where you’re able to have both –a successful work life as well as a thriving personal life.

A work-life balance does not by any means imply a dissection of the hours of day into two equal halves, for let’s face it –that’s just downright unrealistic. You couldn’t possible schedule 9-5PM of only work, ignoring all domestic issues, and leave the remainder solely for personal time. Work and personal life become integral to your life. They can’t always be put away in airtight compartments. You’ve to manage your time, self and stress in such a manner that it’s not one or the other. Work-life balance is all about finding a balance that’s right for you –there’s no one-size-fits-all scheme you could follow, you’ve to find something that works for you!

As aforesaid, you must have a proper schedule: those who study based on their timetable are likely to reap sweet returns in future, by scoring well. Those who study anything and everything together and randomly ultimately land up nowhere. This is because then majority fail to concentrate based on subjects, so there has to be a proper structure and time table to adhere to. So those of you who do not have a timetable for them, set it now. You might face a few complexities in the beginning, but you will eventually get used to it and the best part of sticking to the time table and then studying is that it helps a lot in combating stress.

Once you begin following your time table, have atleast an hour or so where you can revise to whatever you have studied throughout the day. Say for instance: if you study for six hours a day, save atleast one hour for you wherein you can do all the revision work. There’s no point in keep on going mugging up things, if you fail to recall it at the last. So, allot some time for you on a daily basis, wherein you should revise everything that you studied all day long. It will help you in accomplishing your desired mission of getting admission in MBA college of repute.

Do not wrack your brains in one thing thinking that you’ll be able to clear your exams. Brain also has a capacity of its own and cannot handle excess pressure at a time. Cramming and presuming that 24*7 studies work is a no solution.
